About Us:
The Lyrics Matter Foundation is a charitable organization whose purpose is to conduct skills based workshops for adolescents ages 16-24. These workshops fall into two categories: (1) helping students to understand all aspects of music including history and performance and (2) an intimate view of the business components of music including interviewing, enhancing interpersonal skills on the job and steps to moving up the ladder. Finally, students will experience forays into entrepreneurship.
Objective:
Being in the music industry for close to 30+ years and an artist for even longer, it behooves me to educate people with everything that I have learned. Experience is the best teacher and that is something that I can proudly declare that I have. This program will be fun for all while educational at best. When students walk out of the classroom each day they will be that much more informed about a world that was created to teach people how to express themselves honestly, freely and creatively. It also provides a myriad of entrepreneurial opportunities for young adults to flourish behind the scenes. I can think of no better way to give back to my community than by making myself accessible to those who need that upliftment. I am hopeful that this course grows into something larger than anyone's childhood dream and I look forward to being a part of that experience!
Goals:
Musically advanced students will work on a musical composition (solo or group) until its completion while exploring other positions that can be obtained in the entertainment field. Internships with distinguished music companies will also be awarded to dedicated and deserving students.
*Workshops are conducted on Saturdays for a period of 3hrs/day. Weekday schedules may vary. There will be field trip/studio days as well as formal music learning days*
